Funds Available for Energy Assistance

Kendall-Grundy Community Action Services, a division of Kendall County Health Department, has funds available for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The mission for energy assistance programs are to assist low income households in meeting their immediate home energy needs by paying a portion of energy bills to prevent service interruptions, while providing education on home energy conservation and other opportunities to achieve and maintain energy security and financial self-stability. This assistance includes households who have propane heat.

To qualify for this assistance on your gas and your electric bills, households must have an income equal to or less than 200 percent of the poverty level as defined in the 2020 poverty guidelines and provide required documentation. Please see requirements below.

Required documentation for appointment:

  1. Social Security numbers for every household member
  2. Proof of income for the last 30 days including the date of the application for anyone 18 years or older in the household or forward 30 days due to loss of income because of the COVID-19 crisis.
  3. Current gas (including propane) and electric bill issued within the last 30 days (if they pay for the energy directly)

The Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP) is available to households who have an income equal to or less than 150 percent of the poverty level as defined in the 2020 poverty guidelines and provide required documentation. Please see requirements below.

The PIPP program is available to customers of Nicor, Ameren, and ComEd. Under PIPP, eligible households pay a percentage of their income, receive a monthly benefit towards their utility bill, and arrearage reduction for every on time and in full payment they make. PIPP applications are taken from July 27, 2020 until March 31, 2021, or until funding is exhausted.

Kendall-Grundy Community Action is still accepting applications for LIHEAP and PIPP beginning on July 27, 2020 until funds are exhausted. Residents in Kendall County can call (630)553-9100.
