Keeping Teens Safe this Summer

Although adolescents seem to be less at risk for severe COVID-19 complications, the current pandemic has significantly impacted the lives of young people around the globe. Along with the isolation of social distancing, abrupt school closures, and the cancellation of proms and graduations, many young people may find themselves feeling bored, worried, and lonely. In response to the unique season we are in, the Stand Strong Coalition has developed a Summer Safety Parent Toolkit “full of ideas and ways to keep you and your family healthy, strong, and safe”. Within this free, easily accessible toolkit, parents can browse 5 sections that will encourage families to make the most of this summer in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak. Topics included in the toolkit are ways to help teens cope with social distancing, COVID-19 and the impact of substance use, 5 conversation goals with your kids, 10 tips to help your teen build resilience during this uncertain time, and 40 creative family activities to try this summer.

Please click here to access this unique Summer Safety Toolkit. For more information on behavioral health services available to youth and families through the Kendall County Health Department, please call (630)553-9100.
